Deep Water Bay Regatta

Thanks to all teams again for participating at Hong Kong Island Paddle Club's 11th Deep Water Bay Dragon Boat Races 2010 in cooperation of the Victoria Recreation Club. What a wonderful day in Deep Water Bay! We can't ask for better weather for it!

75 teams and 1,500 racers and volunteers participated in our 11th Annual Deep Water Bay Races and everyone was in great spirit!

The day went smoothly and the competitions were fierce. Nothing could be more exciting than the photo-finish at the race of the day (Open Cup Final) with the result of the double Champions, Hoi Fu Jai and South Eagle.

In addition, we received many positive feedback throughout the race day not only from the participating teams but also the spectators, police, Chai Wan Fisherman helpers and the Rowing Association Officials!

Our sponsors Carlsberg, Fiji Water, Power Bar, Typhoon 8 and Brand HK, and our partners Carbon Care Asia and Hong Kong Shark Foundation were very impressed by our enthusiatic participants! This might encourage them to support the event again next year!!

In co-operation with Carbon Care Asia, the 11th Deep Water Bay Dragon Boat Regatta is the first Carbon Neutral dragon boat event in the World! And the first Carbon Neutral sports event in Hong Kong!

Following the success of the 10th Deep Water Bay Dragon Boat Races, Hong Kong Island Paddle Club is pleased to announce May 9, 2010 will be the date of the 11th Deep Water Bay Dragon Boat Races

In conjunction with the already very successful Open, Women and Mixed competitions we will be introducing a Grand Championship Race into the program called the Victoria Recreation Club Trophy. More information will follow shortly.

Promoted as a “dragon boat race for paddlers organized by paddlers”, the Hong Kong Island Paddle Club invites old and new teams to our annual event in the calm (normally) and deep (always) waters of Deep Water Bay.

This event has grown from humble beginnings in 1999 and now offers a race of about 70 teams, including some of the best teams in Hong Kong. There are five different categories; men, women, mixed, post-secondary education and juniors. In 2005 we welcomed our first overseas entry from Singapore.

As regular participants in races in Hong Kong, Asia and South Africa and having competed in World, Asian and World Crew Club Championships, HKIPC believes it can provide race organization alongside the best.

We offer dragon boat teams in Hong Kong an additional race in which to participate, and one which offers no lane, or boat advantage. We guarantee each team at least three races and we make stringent efforts to keep on schedule and do our best to make the races highly competitive with an element of fun.

As of 2005 we have been supported by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee so there were medals to be won as well as Trophies.

So if you are interested but haven’t been and want to find out more send Summie Tam an email and request information to find out what racing in Deep Water Bay is all about.

We have a self-imposed limit on the number of teams we can accommodate, so don’t delay in your application if you wish to join us for what we hope will be an even better Deep Water Bay race in 2010. You can find the application form here on our website soon.
